instantiate

Utility method to instantiate a class. First, an invocation of Class.newInstance is attempted. If this results in an IllegalAccessException (as is the case with static singletons with a private constructor), then a reflective invocation of a method named "getInstance" is attempted.

Parameters:

packageName - The (fully qualified) name of the package of the class to instantiate. The zero-length string if the class is not part of a package.

className - The (simple, i.e. non-qualified) name of the class to instantiate

Returns:

An (or the) instance of the named class

Throws:

NotFoundException - If the class does not exist

java.lang.InstantiationException - If a new instance cannot be created because the class is abstract, is an interface, ...

java.lang.IllegalAccessException - If the invocation of the getInstance() method failed

Utility method to instantiate a class. First, an invocation of a public getInstance() method, defined by the class is attempted. If this results in an Exception (e.g. because there is no such method), then instantiation is attempted through the class' newInstance() method (which requires the class to have a public no-arg constructor) is attempted.

Parameters:

clazz - the Class object to instantiate

Returns:

An (or the) instance of the named class

java.lang.InstantiationException - If a new instance cannot be created because the class is abstract, is an interface, ...
